Kevin's School Pics

Kevin has done a lot of cool things in school in his 3rd grade year. His Language Arts teacher ended her poetry lesson with a Poetry Cafe.  Each kid got up and read one of their original poems.  It was a fun day.

Here they all are, happy to have successfully read their poems to the audience.

Next up was Play Cafe.  The kid acted out a fable that had a moral at the end.  Kevin was the narrator and Paolo was the monkey.  This had potential, but was a little more chaotic than educational.

Every year the school has a Fun Run to raise money for the school.  Kevin ran almost the whole time, but tried to avoid seeing me when he came by!  I see you Kevin!!!

For Halloween, they had Pirate Day.  They had to dress like a pirate and during the day, participated in a bunch of pirate themed activities.  Here they are following a treasure map.  What was the treasure?  Popsicles!!!

I think I could look at Kevin in leggings all day long.  Knockin' me out with those American thighs!

They do a lot of group projects at school.  Here is Kevin presenting his part of the Mexico project.  Still working on the facing the audience part!

Kevin's class went to the MOSH (Museum of Science and History) for a field trip.  Here are Eashan, Kevin, and Noah in front of the dinosaur skeleton.

While waiting for the Planetarium show, they got a picture with the astronaut statue.  It looks like he's putting his arms around Noah!

Instead of a normal holiday party at Christmas time, they had a Gingerbread Extravaganza!  Here are Kevin and Addie getting ready to make some gingerbread.

Afterwards, it was time to clean up.  There was an actual (verbal) fight about who would get to use the broom.  Why don't I ever hear the request to sweep and clean at my house?  I would happily give that up!

So, Day 1 was make the gingerbread dough.  Day 2 was put the dough in the molds and bake it off (not pictured, because it was a 7+ hour, back breaking day molding, and baking, and washing, and burning our hands, and yelling at kids sort of day).  Now, Day 3 was the assembly and decorating of the gingerbread villages.  Kevin's teacher brought in college kids to help monitor the assembly of the villages during the morning.  I showed up for the lunch and decorating.

First though, it was time for the book exchange.  Mrs. Dunn read a story and every time she said left or right the kids would pass the book in that direction.  After the 2nd paragraph, she realized that she needed to stop and review with the gifted 3rd grade class which was their Left and which was their Right.  One of the most hilarious and also sad parts of the day.    Back to preschool for all of you!

Now its time to decorate.  It started off nice.  Take your time with the icing and the candies.

Then it erupted into lets get this done and use every spec of candy and sugar.  Thank goodness it was such a great group of good, laid back kids.  Everyone was fine with that approach.  I witnessed crying and fighting and sulking at most every other table because they couldn't work together. 

Time to knock it down and eat!

For Kevin's reading log, he always has to do a small project or book report on the book he read.  This is Kevin's painting for his December book - Blast Off.  I joked that the Louvre was calling.  His painting is so good that they want to take down the Mona Lisa and replace it with this masterpiece. 

For Christmas, Kevin's teacher gave him a Paperwhite bulb. He had to plant it in a clear cup filled with something other than dirt.  He chose Legos.  Kevin put the bulb in the window and watched it grow. It grew so quick and tall, that he soon had to replant it into a bigger cup.  Maybe the horticulture genes just skipped me.

Kevin had an awards day where he got his Honor Roll certificate.  They also had a special award for those who got Honorable Mention in a National Noetic Math contest.  Great job Kevin!

Kevin was also in the first group of kids to master his multiplication math facts.  The principal had a pizza party for the kids and handed out certificates.  We are so proud of you Kevin!
