Caroline's Science Project

5th grade is the big Science Project year. Caroline's teacher was more interested in learning the scientific method than on forcing a STEM project (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math).  Caroline wanted to find out what fat was preferred in a Chocolate Chip cookie.  She made batches of the same dough, substituting Butter, Margarine, and Shortening.  We have been gone almost every weekend for soccer tournaments during the same time that this Science Project was going on, so it has been very stressful.  We raced home from Melbourne so she could start making lots and lots of cookie dough.  Her she is baking away, still in her soccer uniform!

She decided to give everyone half of 3 separate cookies.

Now it is time for assembly - Lots of measuring, cutting, gluing, taping...

And its done!  Her hypothosis, which was based on all of her research, was that people would prefer butter in their cookies.  Over half of the kids chose shortening though.  We were all surprised!  Her project turned out beautifully, and we are both thankful it is done!
