Today Caroline, Kevin, Aunt Vicki and I took a trip down to Blue Spring State Park to see the manatees. Every year they migrate from the cold St. John's River into the spring, where it is a constant 72 degrees all year long. The best time to see them is in January and February. It was really cool. There was a boardwalk all up and down the spring. The water was crystal clear and the palm tree "forest" around the boardwalk was beautiful.
At one end Caroline and Kevin found an old tree stump that the boardwalk was built around and stayed for a pose.
Here they are having a snack under what Caroline called "our tree." Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures where Kevin isn't eating pretzels. The boy loves his salty snacks!
After a long(ish) walk and some snacks, Caroline, Kevin, and Aunt Vicki were all tuckered out. Night night everyone.
We found a couple spots with a bunch of manatees all together. I think we saw a good 60 in all today. A definite must see, but be sure to get there early. When we got there at about 9:30, we got a great parking spot and had the park almost to ourselves. By the time we left a little after 11, the parking lot was full and there were people all over the place.

Very cool! We'll definitely have to make the trip next year, when Michael might be a bit more interested in the manatees. I was having visions of the "Butterfly Festival" all over again...
