She took off and left several girls in the dust. There were some fast girls out there. It was quite impressive.
Here is the team, waiting for the next event and enjoying some snacks.
Next up was the long jump. I thought it was funny that Caroline would be participating in this event. She is so little. Oh my goodness, she flew!
They didn't measure and just eyeballed the jumps, but this jump (in which she stuck the landing - didn't fall back) pushed her well into First Place. Technically, she should have won. The later competitors fell backward, but they measured to where their feet landed. I also question where the 2nd place winner's feet landed, but whatever. It was supposed to be a fun event. I've always thought things were more fun when you play by the rules.
Caroline officially came in 3rd place!
Way to go Caroline! There were several soccer families in the stands, with kids representing several local schools. Caroline had the biggest cheer squad and was overwhelmed with the support.
The next event was the 4x100m relay. Caroline was the lead off runner. She got off to a huge lead...
and made the first handoff. Her team went into the last leg with a big lead. The race ended in dramatic fashion. There was a debate at the finish line, and 2 judges argued the winner. They ended up giving the heat win to the other team, but because of the JCE girls' time, they got into the final heat.
Caroline started things off again, and she flew. One of the girls she was going against a super tall, super fast girl. She was able to keep things close.
Caroline was second to make the handoff. The whole team ran their hardest. Another close end, but there wasn't any debate.
Julington Creek Elementary comes in 3rd place!!!! Great job girls! (FYI the team that started things off so strong came in 4th).
What a great group of kids. I have loved our time at Julington Creek. We are so glad we moved schools 3 years ago.
Caroline came home with 2 medals and has fallen in love with Track. If this soccer thing doesn't work out, she has a great backup plan.
