Last week Caroline, Kevin and I met Grandma and Grandpa at the beach in Kill Devil Hills, NC. The sand was nice and soft, but the water was way too cold.
Brrr
It seemed that Caroline always had a little shadow. Kevin followed her
wherever she would go.
Except when he was chasing her with sticks or feathers... whatever could be made into a gun.
On Friday, we put our suits on and headed down to the beach. Kevin found
Caroline's sunglasses and decided to get some sun!
The kids had fun playing in the sand. They even found a little fort that someone had left.
And here is Kevin throwing sand just one of the times. No no no no no!!!

where'd their legs go?
Saturday was cold and supposed to rain. We even had to go buy pants for Kevin and sweatshirts for the 2 of us. We then headed up to Corolla to see the lighthouse there. We (Caroline, Grandma and I) climbed 214 steps to the top, then 214 down. Kevin walked up about 60 of the steps and was carried by me the rest of the way. Who needs the gym?
The next morning, I took the kids to
Dunkin Donuts and K-Mart. They found this little carousel and had a blast.
Later we went to the Wright Brother's Memorial and got to see a replica of the plane.
Unfortunately Kevin didn't want to hear the ranger talk about the First Flight, so we left Grandma, Grandpa, and Caroline and headed outside to see the Memorial.
Aren't we so cute! See how high we were. After climbing the 428 steps the day before the hike up the hill to see the memorial was tough. Kevin had enough half way up, so guess who got to carry him the rest of the way!!! Again...who needs the gym?
At 11, they had a kite flying lesson. Look at the kite flying pro!!! She had her kite up in the air higher than anyone else.
In the evenings, after dinner we headed out to the beach and played bubbles until bedtime. The beach is a great place for bubbles. You don't even have to blow. Just hold the wand up to the wind. The kids loved chasing them.
On our last day, we headed over to Roanoke Island where the first English child was born in America. The replica ship was pretty cool and surprisingly small.
They had a cute Hands On Museum about the area. Here is Caroline duck hunting.

We had a good time, although it was a really long drive for us. 11 hours to go to the beach...and we live 25 minutes from the beach. Still fun. We loved to see Grandma and Grandpa. Now back to real life.
